Insights

  • In our original idea, the app allowed for people to post about almost any issues they had. But we soon established that the app needed to limit the users to specific topics that the League was currently championing. This ensured not only that the business needs were being met, but that users felt that something was being done about their problems, and some good was coming out of posting about them.
  • Users desired a means to comment on posts and connect with one another. This would allow them to help one another based on similar experiences.
  • Beyond interacting on the app itself, users also wanted to ensure that they could share posts with friends and family outside the app community. We realized that this would help generate more traction for the cause, and rally support from people not directly affected by the issue. This is based on the hypothesis that a person is more likely to get involved when an issue affects someone they know/love.

Our Solution

We designed a mobile application that would exclusively serve a specific purpose of sharing stories and educating users on voting (the main cause championed by the League), while leveraging common design patterns that people know.

We chose to utilize the many websites (national and local) of the League by spotlighting the app on all of their home pages to create awareness of it.

Inspired by multi-media sharing platforms like Instagram and Facebook, we wanted to give users the option to post their stories in video, audio or written format. They would also be able to browse through posted stories in a single page feed that would never take the user out of context to a different page.

We also wanted to utilize a page scrolling system in the app similar to the one used by Twitter.
